Starting to Learn to Play Together
I have been spending a lot of time with the Swanson (next door neighbor) kids lately. The
last couple of nights, Mrs. Swanson has invited me over to play with them while Mommy mowed
the yard (last night the back, tonight the front). I am kind of obsessed with Zoe, their
five year old. She fawns over me and I dig that. Noah, who is nine, is like a role model
for me, and I like spending time with him when he is around. But probably my favorite playmate
will always be Olivia, because she is almost the same age. She will be three in January, so
she's a little ahead of me (though she weighs quite a bit less, of course). Tonight we played
together for quite a while, after Zoe and Noah disappeared to resume their hide and seek game
that had been interrrupted for dinner.
The Glasses had given me some hand-me-down trucks, and this really cool box with lots of doors
and fasteners and stuff. I was playing putting the trucks in the box, and opening and closing
the latches and doors. Livvie was playing with me, too. At one point, she had a truck that I
wanted, and I started saying, "Have it. Have it!" but she wouldn't listen. I tried to take it
from her, which I know wasn't really nice, but she wasn't listening. Anyway, she didn't budge.
Mommy notice this exchange, and reminded me that I should ask Livvie nicely for the truck?
She said that if I asked nicely, Livvie was much more likely to share." So I said, "Please, Livvie,
Have the truck." And she handed it to me right away. All she wanted was a little respect. I
need to remember that.
Mommy didn't take any pictures of this exchange, but she took a picture of me w/ the box later on,
so I have attached that pic so you can see what I'm talking about. Isn't it a cool toy?
