Thanksgiving Day
Today started out with a shock. First of all, Daddy woke me up before I
was ready. That's the first time I haven't been allowed to sleep as long as
I wanted to sleep overnight. Last night Mommy and Daddy told me that they
would probably be waking me up early, but I didn't know how that was going
to feel until it actually occurred. Why did they wake me up? Because we had
to leave to go do our Thanksgiving Day family outing - a 5K run in downtown
Minneapolis with about 10,000 other crazy people.
What they didn't warn me about when they told me what we were
going to do was that the cold outside would take my breath away. When we
left the house, it was only 10 degrees, with a wind chill of -6. Mommy said
"Good grief!" If I could talk, I'd have said something with even more punch.
They bundled me up very well, though, so with the exception of the walk from
the house to the car, when my face was really cold, I was OK. Mommy put
vaseline on my cheeks (you can see it shine in the picture of me asleep in the
cougar) to help prevent wind burn, but inside the cougar, it probably wasn't
necessary. I slept for most of the run. Other kids on the run weren't nearly
as content as I. And for that, I know that Mommy and Daddy were thankful on
this Thanksgiving day.
After the run, we spent the day at home. Mommy spent most of the day cooking, and
I got to play with Daddy. He helped me do somersaults on the bed. We played
catch and chase and all sorts of fun games. I didn't eat much all day, as I was
saving room for the yummy dinner - Quorn (tofu turkey roast), stuffing, green
beans, carrots, cranberries, and of course, buns. Mommy told me that when I get
older, she'll teach me to bake buns if I want to learn. I don't know what
part of the meal was my favorite - I liked everything - but I think I liked
the cranberry relish the best. I saw pumpkin pie on the table, but we didn't
have any before I went to bed. I know Mommy and Daddy were planning for us all
to have some, but I got tired early - probably because of my early rising this
morning. I hope I get to try it tomorrow. Yumm - just the thought of my first
pumpkin pie has me salivating.
